Let's Discuss Socialism - What it is, what it is not.

  • Edgewater Branch, Chicago Public Library 6000 N Broadway Chicago (map)

In the present midterm election climate “Socialism” is becoming a scare word for conservative members of the public. Some politicians try to label the Democrats’ progressive wing, the Democratic Socialists of America, as “Communism” implying that the whole party is tainted by it.

We invite you to join us in a discussion of socialism and capitalism in their different forms in the hope of achieving some clarity, making it easier to decide what is at stake in the election.

Professor Gerhard Schutte will lead the discussion after a short introduction  Mr. Schutte is a professor emeritus of sociology at the University of Wisconsin System and published widely on race and ethnic relations.

Registration is required. In partnership with the Edgewater Branch, Chicago Public Library.
