Join us for a special film screening of Watch on the Rhine. This movie is part of the Anti-Fascist Movies of the 1930's & 1940's film series at Edgewater branch, which culminates with a lecture about the rise of fascism in 1930's Europe with Professor Emeritus Peter Hayes of Northwestern University on October 24 at 2 p.m.
Best Picture nominee about an American family living in Europe, where they are involved in the anti-Nazi underground movement in Germany, but after they move back to the United States, pro-regime forces locate them and attempt blackmail. The script, based on Lillian Hellman's hit Broadway play, was written by her lover, Dashiell Hammett, who received an Oscar nomination for Best Screenplay.
