Dementia 101 (on Zoom)

This lively, interactive session provides a foundational understanding of how dementia-related brain changes impact cognition and behavior over time. Effective, empathy focused communication strategies will be highlighted that support the person living with dementia, care partners and friends.

Jeannine Forrester, Ph.D, R.N., of Through the Forrest, offers guidance and education to family and professional caregivers impacted by Alzheimer’s and other related dementias. Through her Dementia Coach On-Call ® service, individuals receive live one to one support.

Jeannine Forrester has over 35 years of clinical practice, education, and research focused on geriatrics, dementia; pain; palliative and end-of-life care. She has served as faculty member at the University of Illinois at Chicago and Rush University. She held Board positions for the Illinois Hospice & Palliative Care Organization; Chicago End-of-Life Care Coalition and the Alzheimer’s Disease Advisory Committee of Illinois. She has provided palliative care and dementia training in various regions of China. She is the author of journal articles and book chapters on pain and geriatric related issues, and has collaborated with the Alzheimer’s Association studying outcomes of comfort focused care for residents with advanced dementia in nursing homes. She holds a Fellowship in the Institute of Medicine of Chicago.

She has hosted 36 episodes for the Dementia Society of America’s “Dementia Unplugged: Care Conversations” a national monthly webcast.
